We took the "Mega blast boat" from Fremantle to Rottnest. Richard and Elise sat in the front, Kevin, Amy and Johan were looking forward to the ride, Louise was a little bit worried and I (Mrs S) took a motion sickness pill before the boat took off...The funny thing was that the normal Ferry we took on our way back to Fremantle was more of a Mega blast than this one :)
Renting bikes, felt like we were on an excursion on Ven.
Pretty island with an ugly name
So many beaches and bays to explore
Armstrong Bay
Another paradise
Ahh! Now we know how the island got its name: When a Dutch captain saw Quokkas here in 1696 he thought the friendly little animals were rats and named the island "rat's nest" (Rattesnest in Dutch language).
The basin was a cool place to swim in, like natural pools inside the Ocean.
Picnic in the shade
The Quokkas are everywhere here on the island, and they like to be petted too. We like them! Just to make things clear, they are not big rats, they are related to kangaroos and wallabies.
A beer to end this wonderful day on the island was a good idea before we took the boat back to Fremantle, where we all stayed over night.
